After the three gentle, double harmonics that top and tail the piece, a quiet, meditative rumination undergoes a variety of subtle transformations, impacted each time by sometimes frantic or violent or lyrical episodes that lace their way through the piece. The Benefit Of Hindsight inhabits the worlds of rondo form and variation without being specifically either. It was written for the Royal Academy of Music’s 200 Pieces project and is dedicated to Bradley Johnson who gave the first performance. It lasts approximately 16 minutes.
