This short fanfare is scored for 3 trumpets, 4 horns, 2 tenor trombones, bass trombone, tuba, celeste, organ, timpani and percussion (4 players). Its first performance was given on 22 December 2001 in the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester by the Hallé Orchestra conducted by Stephen Bell.
The fanfare is based on fragments of the following seasonal carols:
